- Connection: Before and After
- Teaching: Today I want to teach you that argument writers search their texts for quotations that will bring their side of the argument to life.
- Engagement: What makes a quotation powerful?
- Application: Rework your draft and add powerful quotes to strengthen your argument; but be sure to "unpack" the quote to show how it relates to your claim.
- Paraphrase! Rewrite evidence in your own words.
- Explicitly connect your reasons to your evidence: don't make your readers infer!
- Continually ask yourself, "What are you trying to teach/show/make your reader believe?"
