Purpose: I can decode unknown words and phrases using context clues.
- Connection: Remember, at some point all readers will come across unfamiliar words and phrases while reading a text. A good reader will decode the word/phrase using context clues. But the best readers monitor their decoding meaning to ensure it fits the meaning of the text.
- Application: Read and comprehend "Betsy Ross" in the American Revolutionary War Heroes Packet
- Ask questions while reading the passage.
- Decode manufacture, origins, and lore in the context clues activity.
- Answer at least three (3) comprehension questions.

- Identify words/phrases that are unknown to you.
- Record the sentence (with page #) each is found in.
- Identify the decoding strategy you used to determine the meaning.
