Thursday 10/12 Morning Warm-Up

  1. Thursday Band Lessons: Check your lesson time.
  2. Turn-in your Fall Party Donations to Mr. Erickson.
  3. Display your HomeLink 2-8 for the Homework Checker.
  4. Have your Weather Flash Draft materials ready.
  5. Read and comprehend "Cloud Seeding" at Newsela.

Wednesday 10/11 Reading - Writing Well about Reading

Purpose: I can write well about my thinking while reading.
  1. Review:  Record your "I can grow as a reader by making goals and working towards them" Reading Goals on our Conference Sheet to share with parents.
  2. Minilesson:  Writing Well about Reading
  3. Independent Reading Time: "Identifying Conflict" Response is due Friday
    • Character vs Self: A struggle between a character and their feelings, conscience, or fear.
    • Character vs Character: A mental or physical struggle between two characters.
    • Character vs Nature: A struggle between a character and Mother Nature.
    • Character vs Society: A struggle between a character and the laws or beliefs of a group.

Wednesday 10/11 Science - Can we make it rain?

Purpose: I can develop a model to explain how water cycles from the Earth’s surface to the atmosphere and back again.
  1. Whole Group: Can we make it rain?
  2. Application: Rainmaker Experiments
  3. Nonfiction Reading:  Clouds are made of water, but sometimes that water doesn't fall as rain. Scientists have figured out how make clouds drop their water. Discover how in this reading.
  4. Extension: “The Great Aqua Adventure” reviews the basics of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.

Wednesday 10/11 Morning Warm-Up

  3. Record your FINISHED free reading on your Reading Log.

Tuesday 10/10 Reading - Discuss Characters

Purpose: I can discuss characters with my book club to deepen my understanding of what I read.
  1. Have your "Describing Characters" Response ready to share in a Book Club Meeting with Mr. Erickson

Tuesday 10/10 Writing - Weather Flash Draft

Purpose:  I can show what I know about weather & climate through my writing.
  1. Weather Flash Draft Community Document: Follow Mr. Erickson's directions to correctly link your document.
  2. Application:  Show what you know about weather and climate through your writing, self-monitor your work using our Weather Flash Draft Rubric.
    • Sharing: We will read and respond to our classmates' Weather Flash Drafts on Thursday.
