Thursday 11/02 Writing - NaNoWriMo Novel Beginning

Purpose: I can write the beginning of my novel that includes details or descriptions related to the plot that make it fun to read.
  1. Review:  Good first sentences should introduce the plot or part of the plot, even in a tiny way.  They should also include exciting details or descriptions that make people want to keep reading.
  2. Word War: Thursday 11/02
  3. Application: Write your novel!  Use your planning and preparation you've already thought of.

Thursday 11/02 Social Studies - How and Why Europeans Came to the New World

Purpose:  I can determine the meaning of words related to Early European Exploration.
  1. Quick Write:  Answer the following questions in your Social Studies Notebook
    1. How did explorers come to the New World?
    2. Why did explorers come to the New World?
    3. What did explorers take to the New World?
    4. What did explorers take from the New World?

Thursday 11/02 Reading - Develop New Ideas about Characters

Purpose: I can push myself to grow new ideas about characters.
  1. Whole Group: Character Traits Practice
  2. Independent Reading: "Introduction of Characters" Response is due TOMORROW
    1. List the characters you meet during your first Reading Assignment for your book club.
    2. In your Reading Notebook, use a Character Web to identify elements of THREE characters:
      • ADD: I used to think..., but now I think...
      • What character trait best describes them?
      • Describe the character's appearance.
      • What are the character's actions?
      • Describe the thoughts/feelings of the character.
      • What is your opinion of the character?

  3. Have your Reading and Book Club materials ready.
  4. Read and comprehend "Long Live the Vikings" @ ReadWorks to practice determining the meaning of words in context.
  5. Read quietly
