Wednesday 05/31 Morning Warm-Up and Schedule

  1. Last call for library books and classroom materials.
  2. Place your report card and other awards/certificates in your Take Home Folder.
  3. Write a letter to a future student in my class:
    • Use your best writing skills, your letter should be around 1/2 a page long.
    • Turn-in your finished letter and check-off your name at the front table.
  4. We will sign yearbooks after turning in our letters.
  5. THERE ARE SPEAKERS NEAR THE STAGE: BE VERY CAREFUL AS YOU WALK UP AND DOWN THE STEPS.

Friday 05/26 Reading - Discuss the Plot

Purpose:  I can discuss the plot of our story to understand how the characters and events interact.

    • Use the provided white construction paper.
    • Draw your self-portrait from the shoulders up.
    • Be as neat and colorful as your abilities allow.

Purpose:  I can identify classmates who have shown great character throughout the school year.

Purpose: I can learn more about human growth and development by extending my knowledge with genes and DNA.

Purpose: I can write odes, a type of poem that celebrates something ordinary as quite extraordinary.
  1. Whole Group: Introduction to Odes 
  2. Independent Practice: Use these guidelines when working on your odes:
    • Pick an ordinary place or thing.
    • Give your subject praise or thanks. (Oh, _____________!)
    • Speak directly to the object.
    • Use adjectives to describe it.
    • Use verbs to bring that object to life. (Personification)
    • Use repeated lines.
